About CPRI

The Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. It was founded in 1960 with the goals of performing applied research in the area of power systems, offering technical assistance to the power industry, and promoting the advancement of homegrown innovations.

Several laboratories at the institute carry out research in several fields, including high voltage engineering, power system dynamics and control, power electronics and drives, energy management, and testing and certification of electrical equipment. The power sector can also take advantage of testing, calibration, and consulting services from CPRI.

The CPRI collaborates with numerous national and international organisations and has taken part in numerous significant power systems-related research and development initiatives. For students and professionals in the electricity sector, it also provides training and educational programmes. The CPRI maintains regional offices in Bhopal, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Noida, Kolkata, and Guwahati in addition to its headquarters in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

As the name suggests, the institute focuses heavily on Research and Development. It houses avant-grade infrastructure and research equipment, the institute has immensely contributed to the ongoing research in power transmission and distribution. In the current era, CPRI has given meaningful contributions to the safe and continuous generation and transmission of power. The institute also encourages innovation and the production of cutting-edge technology related to the power sector, especially when it comes to renewable energy. The institute has a major role to play when it comes to testing. It provides state-of-the-art facilities for testing heavy electrical equipment and setting standards for the equipment. These standards comply with international standards, thus helping the manufacturers of electrical equipment to better comply with the regulations, maintaining uniformity and increasing the performance and longevity of the product.

CPRI also provides consultancy services to various government departments and agencies. These services are required by government agencies and departments in order to maintain standards while formulating policy drafts and implementing policies. The institute also helps with the implementation of programs of various government outfits. With the help of such services, the customers, i.e. the government can better manage its power-related issues and save precious taxpayer’s money. Apart from this, the institute is also actively involved in drafting, reviewing and researching policies and analysing them for the government and itself. For instance, it has drafted numerous policies for the Ministry of Power to smoothly transition Indian power from coal-based to renewable energy. It has also actively pursued research in renewable energy, as well as alternative sources of power.

In conclusion, the Central Power Research Institute is a premier institute for your career and can give the required impetus for the growth you are expecting in your life and career.
