CUET UG Results 2023: About CUET

Initially known as the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET), the CUET stands for Common University Entrance Test. It is a test conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission into various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Central Universities. CUET began in 2022.

Since it was launched, CUET has become an important part of the Indian education system. Envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the CUET is the sole test that the Central Universities accept while granting admission to prospective students. However, not all universities are currently under the ambit of CUET. The original plan in the NEP was to admit all students throughout the country solely based on their scores in the CUET, similar to the engineering exams of IIT JEE Mains and Advanced. However, that didn’t work out very well.

CUET is conducted at three levels: CUET (UG), CUET (PG) AND CUET(PhD). Some important features of the test are as follows:

  1. The CUET has been a game changer, especially for students belonging to rural backgrounds, where proficiency in English of the students is minimal. The test is conducted in many regional languages
  2. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency in Computer-based mode, making evaluation easy and speeding up the publishing of results, thus saving time.
  3. The test also helps students living in far-away places where exams for admission into central universities such as the University of Delhi cannot be conducted properly. This increases opportunities for all Indians.
  4. A single test for all universities like CUET also saves time, effort and money for both government institutions and the applicants as now applicants are required to write a single test and authorities are required to conduct a single test.
  5. The introduction of CUET has also led to standardization of the exam and exam pattern. Earlier, the same programmes in different colleges used to have different syllabi for entrance tests which increased the unnecessary burden on the students.
  6. CUET has also enhanced the number of options a student has. Earlier, one test could get you into just one college. Now, a plethora of colleges admit students from a single test.
