I’m here today to speak to you about Lal Bahadur Shastri, one of our country’s most well-known leaders, and his life and legacy.

There have been few leaders in our country who are as admired as Lal Bahadur Shastri. Born on October 2nd, 1904, his mother had to raise her children by herself after losing his father when he was a little child. As a result, he had a difficult childhood. Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings had a significant impact on Shastri Ji making him join the Indian independence movement at an early age. He took part in a number of demonstrations and movements, such as the Quit India Movement and the Salt Satyagraha.

Shastri Ji was a man of integrity, courage, principles and discipline. Above all, he was a proud and devout Indian who even skipped a meal when India was going through a food crisis. He continued to live his simple life despite becoming the Prime Minister. He advocated for the reduction of poverty and the elimination of discrimination of all kinds.

Despite having a short tenure as the Prime Minister, he had a lasting impact on our nation. The 1965 Indo-Pakistan conflict was one of the pivotal events in Shastri ji’s time as prime minister.
