The Combined Graduate-Level examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission is one of the most desired exams in the country. The SSC CGL jobs are also heavily desired. As a result, there is huge competition in the exam.
The SSC CGL Exam is conducted in four tiers – Tier I, Tier II, Tier III and Tier IV. The tier I exam is a preliminary Exam. It is only a qualifying exam. It has four sections namely – General Intelligence and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and General Awareness. All sections are of 50 marks each, and the time allotted for the exam is 60 minutes. The total number of questions in Tier I are 200. The candidates qualifying Tier I exam move on to the next one, i.e. Tier II Exam.
The tier II Exam comprises four parts that include topics including English language proficiency, statistics, general studies (finance and economics), and quantitative ability. It is also conducted online and has a total of 320 questions. The total marks are 800 and each section has equal weightage, i.e., 200 marks.
Tier III Exam is a pen-and-paper exam and a descriptive test. It consists of questions on essay writing, applications, letters etc. Total Marks are 100 and the time is 60 minutes.
Tier IV is the final stage of the exam. It is a computer Skill Test. It comprises two tests – DEST – an exam in which candidates must type almost 2000 words in English over the course of 15 minutes. Online testing is used to evaluate candidates’ writing abilities, and CBT – is a test used to evaluate a person’s skill using programmes like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Spreadsheets.
SSC stands for Staff Selection Commission. It is a prominent body that is responsible for the conduction of various examinations that are used to recruit suitable candidates for subordinate levels of Civil Service. The commission was established in 1975 and is headquartered in New Delhi. The commission falls under the Department of Personnel and Training of the Ministry of Personnel Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India.
The commission is responsible for conducting fair and free exams of Group B (non-gazetted) and Group C (non-technical) posts in the central government. The exams it conducts are the Graduate Level Examination (CGL), Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination (CHSL), Junior Engineer (JE) Examination, Constable (GD) Examination, Stenographer Examination etc.
